Eternity or immortality
 

Existence is not an effect and does not have a cause; existence is eternal. We are part of it but not in the way we want to be, as animals. We want to live forever, like all animals, but we cannot so we imagine we are immortal animals. The energy which powers all our vital functions including the one we are operating right now, the reading of symbols (language), is eternal as energy cannot be created nor destroyed (conservation of energy, fundamental principle of physics and 1st law of thermodynamics). But forms are created and destroyed, and it is our form we care about, not the energy which animates the form we care about. And we shouldn’t care about that energy because it is eternal and doesn’t need to be cared about. We are “close” to it when we are conscious of it; are you conscious of the energy powering / animating your vital functions? How about right now as you read these words, are you able to be aware of the energy powering that vital function? If so, you are close to eternity because that energy - like all energies - is indeed eternal.
